How to Train

Training your body to learn new things is a slow process

Everyone has heard the term muscle memory.  It takes 3-5000 good reps to truly learn a new motion in a way you can repeat it without serious concentration.

training speed

You need to train at different speeds from slow to fast. Slow motion first and master that before going to a higher speed.  Using different weights as you train motions at different speeds has been shown to shorten muscle learning times… to a degree

training power

You cannot learn at full power. You will waste time doing bad reps that will slow your overall learning rate.  Start at low power and increase power as the motion becomes easy.  Don’t flail away at too high a power hoping the world will get better. Back off and reduce power until your form is good again and then slowly increase.

training distance

Power, distance they go together, and the same rules apply.  If you cannot do it at 30 feet don’t jump to 43 because you have a game tomorrow.

When you train at the pitching lab.......

We start with plyo balls from 3 feet from the wall!  rarely does anyone miss from there!  Multiple balls and lots of reps to  build confidence and work to build muscle memory.  If you are struggling or or have a bad habit you will be sent home with homework to practice simple patterns.  Maybe 50-100 reps a day for 2 weeks.

You will start short and move back slowly.  You will start low power and add power as you show mastery.  Pitching is a process.  It does not happen overnight, or within 15 seconds of an Instagram reel.

If YOU decide you want to reach your potential you will think hard about the number 3000 or 5000 and how long you are willing to wait to get there.

I can SHOW you how to spin a rise ball in under a minute.   Work on it for 2 years and you can  have a competitive rise.   Good pitchers are obsessed, focused, and some would say crazy.   But that’s why they get to play the best position in the game.
